PHIL EDWARDS
Musical Supervisor
Before his untimely death in 2024 we were privileged to have onboard Phil Edwards who was an elite musical supervisor, working extensively with Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, overseeing many productions worldwide.
Starlight Express, Evita, Jesus Christ Superstar, Miss Saigon and Saturday Night Fever are just a few the many hit musicals Phil was involved with during his illustrious career.
Phil was an honours graduate of the world renowned Guildhall School of Music and Dance and a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music. Phil’s versatility extended to performances with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, The Philharmonia Orchestra and The English National Opera where Phil played keyboard and percussion.
Phil even composed and produced music for the Closing Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Manchester !
Phil became Musical Director of the first U.K. national tour of Annie and subsequently fulfilled the same position in the West End production of Starlight Express whose tour of Japan and Australia he also supervised. He went on to become the original Musical Director of the West End production of Miss Saigon.
Phil was Musical Supervisor of the New Zealand production of Cats after which he returned to Germany as Musical Director of the first German production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. He was the musical supervisor of Starlight Express in London, Germany and Las Vegas.
Phil was delighted and honoured to be appointed Musical Director and co-orchestrator of the original production of Saturday Night Fever at the London Palladium.
Phil was Musical Supervisor of the U.S. National Tours of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and Evita, along with the current production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Phil was also the Orchestrator and Musical Supervisor of the world premiere of Flashdance the musical in the West End, and also reorchestrated the musical for the current U.K. tour.
Any biography of Phil’s would be incomplete without mentioning his rather unusual pastimes, jumping out of aeroplanes and leaping from very high bridges in his second favourite-country, New Zealand. He was also, in former times a triathlete and reservist in The Royal Marines. Phil was also an avid supporter of Wycombe Wanderers, Manchester United, loved watching England play rugby and had a keen interest in beach volleyball…just about anywhere…
